The AAFE Community Development Fund
The AAFE Community Development Fund is a subsidiary of Asian Americans for Equality-- a community based, not-for-profit organization established in 1974, committed to community service and empowerment targeting immigrants, low-income families and minorities throughout
New York City.
AAFE CDF is a richly experienced organization in the field of homeownership outreach, education, and counseling. In its fourteen-year history, the AAFE CDF has secured over $244 million in mortgage financing for over 1,700 clients, while providing counseling to some 7,100 prospective homeowners.
In 2008, the AAFE CDF counseled 360 new clients, helping to create 100 new homeowners with a combined mortgage value of over $21 million.
AAFE CDF Managing Director, SiuKwan Chan, explains steps to homeownership and shares ways to guard against becoming a predatory lending victim at an in-depth homebuying education workshop.
AAFE CDF hosted two “Living in America” fairs in 2008, the first in Elmhurst, Queens on Saturday, May 3, and the second in Sunset Park, Brooklyn on Sunday, June 22. The Living in America fair provides an abundance of information from industry experts in hospitals, financial institutions, local ethnic media and community-based organizations. Over 2,000 attended the fairs in 2008 and over 90 participants attended the in-fair seminar about the homebuying process.
The “Living in America” Fair is fun for the whole family. AAFE CDF staff Mei Liang, Ivy Au, and Anna Wan pass out balloons to children during the 2008 fair in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
AAFE collaborated with Freddie Mac to create CreditSmart Asian guidebooks that are available in English, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese.
The CreditSmart Asian series provides valuable information to consumers about building and maintaining good credit, understanding steps to buying a home and protecting their home investment. Click to download CreditSmart Asian guidebooks in Chinese, English, Korean, or Vietnamese.
